Another day, another exciting and amazing update!

Another day, another exciting and amazing update!
We were approved today for a matching grant through Lifesong for Orphans. We will be able to accept donations through Lifesong and those donations will be tax deductible. 100% of the money that is raised through LifeSong will go directly to pay the program fee for Eliana's adoption.
With this amazing blessing, we have re-evaluated our current fundraising model. The money that we have raised through GoFundMe cannot be applied to our matching grant, but that money will be used to cover the acceptance agreement fee and the inter-state compact fee as those are the fees that are the most pressing. We have changed our GoFundMe goal from the full amount needed for our adoption to the just the amount needed to cover the immediate fees. And now we are only $960 away from that first goal!! God is just so very good! If you would like to donate to help us reach our first goal, you can still donate at our GoFundMe page.
In the coming days we will be putting out more information on how people can donate through LifeSong for Orphans to be a part of the matching grant. We are also scheming on things that we can sell so that we can come up with the final $960 for stage one of our fundraising goal.
In other updates, Eliana continues to improve. It has been amazing to watch her start to thrive and it feels like she is starting to recognize me when I come to the hospital. Aaron gets to go the hospital with me tomorrow and he is looking forward to holding his baby girl again. The big kids are also getting more excited about bringing Eliana home and are starting to feel more connected to her, thanks to the amazing staff at the hospital. The big kids each have a photo album that we keep adding pictures to that they are taking with them everywhere. They also have matching teddy bears with baby Eliana and they have been sleeping with baby blankets so that when I take them back to the hospital, Eliana will have items that smell like home.
Continue to pray for Eliana to improve and that we can get a date for her surgery to repair the hole in her heart. Pray that we can get approval for the inter-state compact agreement - we will need this approval before we can bring her home to our house. Our prayer is that we will get the inter-state compact agreement before Eliana is released from the hospital so that Eliana will not have to spend any time in cradle care, but just get to come straight home with us. We continue to be amazed at God's goodness.

What a crazy day

What a difference 4 days makes! I am still in awe of how our story is playing out and I am amazed at the goodness of our God. It is still hard to believe that when we left our house on Saturday we were a family of 4 heading to the aquarium, and how one phone call changed all that. In our last update , we shared about how we had received a call about a baby with Down Syndrome who needs a forever family and we said yes. That yes started the whirlwind that has been the last few days.        We spent Monday and Tuesday of this week running around and finalizing our paperwork to get an approved home study. God has been orchestrating each moment of this story and it has been so evident as the pieces have fallen into place. One of my favorite moments happened yesterday. We had met with our counselor to get the recommendation letter for the adoption and decided to take the kids to the mall to grab some lunch after. I took the letter in with me so I coul...

How Adoption Became Part of our Story

This weekend Aaron and I were with friends and our adoption journey was the topic of conversation. We were asked, "tell us your story, how did you come to the decision that adoption is the right choice for your family?"         As I pondered this question, I thought back to my classroom at Andrews Elementary School in Burlington, NC. I started teaching at Andrews not long after Aaron and I started dating and I was teaching a class for children with severe and profound disabilities and each of those students were my babies. How I knew that Aaron was the one for me, was that he loved my babies as much as I did. Teaching in that setting meant that I saw some very sad stories and more than once Aaron would make the comment, "I would take Student A home in a heartbeat." I fell in love with this man all over again because he had a heart for my babies and I knew that he meant it when he said he would take any of those babies into our home. It...

Waiting to Move

Shew, can I just say that waiting is hard, and we are only at the beginning of the process.          Recently we have been waiting for our adoption application to be reviewed. It has been a tough couple of weeks of waiting to hear if our application has been approved to move forward with home study. There have definitely been moments of questioning as the days went by. "Was there something on our application that was concerning?" "Did we say something wrong or stupid?" "What if they say we can't move forward?" And on and on.        But today we got the official word that we are going to be able to begin our home study and we will hopefully receive the packet next week! I'm so excited and it is all becoming real.        Even though the waiting has been hard, I have also been so overwhelmed by the support of so many people in our lives. As of this update, we have already raised over $600 to...
